So you want to know about me? Well, for starters I am an adult returning college student... I went back to school a few years ago for graphic and web design after working many years primarily in the equine industry. I still love horses, but decided that my love of art and design were being ignored.
I have been active in animal rescue for some time and I find that my specialty with horses is dealing with other people's discards. Most of the horses I've owned have had issues, usually due to temperment or training, but sometimes caused by neglect or outright abuse. I take them in and do mental and physical rehab until they are better. My current herd consists of a black Tennessee Walker mare named Belle and a chestnut Paso Fino mare named Sugar. Both these gals are keepers!
I share my life with an assortment of other animals, too- dogs, cats, birds, and even two pets rats! Often these guys have been rescues, some coming in as strays that I found, others adopted from local animal shelters.
I am also active with Bluegrass Search & Rescue in central Kentucky for well over a year. My Border Collie, Fred, and I completed Fred's initial training as an Airscent K-9 in July 2009. Fred and I have been involved with several searches for missing people and are always on call. I have hopes to train my Jack Russell Terrier, Indy, as a Human Remains Detection K-9 this year in order to be of further assistance to the team. I am currently certified in First Aid and CPR and have also taken courses in Basic SAR Techniques, Rope Rescue, and Building Collapse- we are always learning new things in SAR!
When I have time, I also airbrush and handpaint scale model horses for myself and customers for which I have earned several national awards and many local awards in our showing system. I love to donate my painting skills toward fundraisers for anything from Breast Cancer research to various horse or small animal rescue organizations.
I believe in working hard to get where I am going and continuing to work hard in order to stay on top.
