NON-HOBBYIST PORTRAIT MODEL FAQ

My turn-around time is 3-5 months at this point. It's only that long because I am a working parent, a real horse owner, and full-time college student. I am happy to give updates to anyone who wants to email me to check on things and I post occasional updates to my email list, Spookhorse Studios. Feel free to join even if you are not commissioning me at this time :) If you are commissioning me, I will try to remember to send you an invite to the group.

I airbrush and hand paint entirely in acrylics using mainly quality Chroma brand airbrush specific paints. Some details may be added in pastels or colored pencils. I seal the finished models extremely well with both Krylon Matte Spray and Testors Dull-Kote. This creates a well-preserved piece that will withstand being packed up, live shown, and tacked up without being too glossy.

Patterns on my paintjobs are guaranteed to be true to life- no unrealistic pintos here! My models have won numerous NAN qualifications, NAN Top Tens and Finalists, a NAN Grand Champion in 2006, and a NAN Reserve Champion in 2004. My personal show string has been very competitive in my region, several taking home Top Tens and Champion/Reserve Champions at the Region 7 Championship Show in 2003. I am always working on new ways to paint and each piece is better than the last.

PAINTING

Price guidelines*:
Scale Solid Colors Rabicanos & Sabinos Apps, Pintos, & Roans
Large Traditional $110 $130 $140 & Up
Traditional $100 $120 $130 & Up
Classic $75 $90 $100 & Up
Little Bit/Paddock Pal $50 $60 $75 & Up
Stablemate $40 $50 $60 & Up
Micro Scale $20 $30 $40 & Up

*These are guidelines only and price may vary with the difficulty or extensive dappling or markings done on a color. Solid indicates minimal markings such as average stockings or facial markings. Rabicano or sabino marking prices are for models which will take several hours on the white markings alone. Extreme rabicanos and sabinos would be priced higher, accordingly. Portrait models will be charged an additional fee of $10-$25.

PREPPING

Prepping is EXTRA but I will do it for customer's models. Sorry, but at this time I am not interested in prepping models for other artists. I will not send a model out of here that hasn't been prepped as it reflects poorly on me as an artist.

Prepping guidelines*:

Scale

Resin Plastic
Large Traditional $40 $45
Traditional $35 $40
Classic $30 $35
Little Bit/Paddock Pal $20 $25
Stablemate $15 $20
Micro Scale $10 $15

*These are guidelines only and price may vary with the quality of the resin or plastic. Models needing lots of filler, resin seconds, sex changes, split seams, etc, require much more work and will be billed at $10 hr for the extra work.

PAYING

Prices do not include shipping, insurance, or delivery confirmation back to you when I am done and I will add that cost to your total amount due. Typically it is $10-$20, depending on box size and weight. Be aware that with the USPS new rates, large and heavy models may be quite expensive to ship home!

Time payments are fine and should include a down payment of at least 25% of the total amount due with shipment of the model(s) to me for painting or when I purchase a model to paint for you. I can take payment via PayPal (credit card ok), money orders, or personal checks. Personal checks used for the final payment will have a hold on shipping the finished model until it clears the bank. Please contact me for payment addresses.

I will send digital photos of your model to you via email when I am finished with the paintjob, this gives you the chance to OK the work and I can tweak anything that you might want before I ship the model home. If you want photos of the work in progress, just ask! I will be happy to email them anytime!
